PRESS RELEASE:

ASUU STRIKE: NYAC CRIES OUT ON THE CONTINUED ASUU NATIONWIDE STRIKE

...calls on the Federal Government to see the education sector as top priority

The leadership of the Nigerian Youth Ambassadors Commune (NYAC) ably led by His Youthfulness, Comr. Hamza Hassan Malami has cried out on the ongoing ASUU strike in the country, stating that the action of ASUU and the Federal Government have endangered and jeopardized the education of the Nigerian Youths who are the potential and future leaders of the country.

The National President while stating this in Abuja, said that the tertiary institutions in the country under the governing body of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have been on strike and thereby crippling all academic and curricular activities of the students for the past 57 days with the Youths Academic future conspicuously being trampled upon with dire negligence.

To this effect, the leadership of the body uses this medium to call upon the Federal Government under His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, the Federal Ministry of Education and all other stakeholders within the educational sector to demonstrate meaningful seriousness in addressing the demands of the striking union, ASUU as to get the students back to classes, while further requesting that all concerned should rise to the challenge of the moment, drop their differences and come together to ensure a sustainable solution to the incessant strike issues.

The National President maintained that the Federal Government with its might and powers can comfortably fund the education of the Nigerian students at all levels to a certain degree, if the sector is being redefined as part of their priorities, stating that "A well funded education will create a knowledge based economy"

While adding his voice, the National Secretary General, Evang. (Amb.) Nonso Iheanyi, reiterated that the Government and the striking academic union should put the interest of the students first and work towards resolving the industrial crisis as soon as possible to ensure that the students gets back to their classrooms as he maintained that this will help curtail students from being easily recruited by kidnappers, criminal gangs, bandits and terrorist as a popular adage says..."an ideal mind is the devil's workshop"

It could be recalled that the Nigerian Youth Ambassadors Commune (NYAC), is an organization that stands on the principles of Good Governance, driven by democratic process and the rule of law among whose mandate is to assist students and defending the course of the Nigerian youths in all strata of human and social engagements.

The organization therefore prayed that the issue of ASUU going on intermittent industrial actions should be treated in its full measure as to bring the actions to a permanent end, while tasking the union to see reasons with the Government on areas that should be considered for the interest of the students and the country in general.
