Atiku Abubakar has received several thumbs down after reports emerged on social media that a group of northern businessmen donated N40 million to purchase the People's Democratic Party (PDP) nomination and expression of interest form for him to contest the 2023 presidential election.

According to reports, the form was purchased in fulfillment of the promise the businessmen made to Atiku when he visited Gombe State last year.

However, a number of people who reacted on social media lambasted the former Vice President for accepting to contest the 2023 poll, even as they suspected the purchase of the form by the so-called northern businessmen to be a sham.

Below are some of the reactions:

@osca4go: "Northerners are good at doing this in every election but not good at reducing the numbers of almajiri on the street/provision of social services to reduce youth restiveness in the North. Why."

@farpluz18: "Is time we look beyond this grandpa, we need a leader with vision, knowledge, courageous and above all strong in term of health, not the one we are going through London check up all the time

@OBIZUOGU: "This is ( Laughable ) - Selected Group Of ( Looter's )"

@SaveThePeoplle: "This is the same group that bought presidential form for buhari...

Can't @atiku reject the form and say no?"

@ArchpopeRhay: "So if he wins, he will reimburse himself and his form buyers from the national treasury?"

@Obimelu: "Continue fooling yourself @atiku there would be no elections in Biafra come 2023."

@AMICABLEDAYS: "Nobody bought form for ATIKU...

The arrest of immediate past Governor of Anambra State Sir Willie Obiano by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at the Lagos Airport was a trending discourse on social media.

While some tweeps held that only governors from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) are being hounded by the anti graft agency immediately they vacate office, others disagreed and explained that Obiano was particularly instructed by the EFCC to turn himself in once he vacates office; and that rather than honouring the invitation, the ex governor opted for escape, which therefore prompted his arrest.

They also went further to mention cases involving ex governors from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) who have had one axe or the other to grind with the EFCC.

@SodiqTade: "The arrest of Obiano at the Lagos Airport is not bad, however, EFCC has not been fair in their dealings with ex-govs. The same EFCC is yet to question former Governors like Amosun, Aregbesola et al years after they left power. Obiano could have joined APC to prevent this easily.

"You can't be selective in fighting corruption. They are quick to arrest ex-govs that are not in APC yet they claim to be Independent body. Apparently, those in APC still enjoy some sort of immunity even after they left office. It is unfair and tends to put the body in bad light."

@Monnylink: "Fayose left office and went to EFCC with confidence. Obiano could have done same because EFCC hinted they would arrest him. Let him defend himself."

@ChibuzoUdolisa: "I think an ex-governor EFCC would gladly want to witch hunt is Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State. He is PDP and a core anti-Buhari. But I am not aware he has ever been arrested or harassed since four years. I doubt if this is always all about APC/PDP as we always want to make it look."

@pitahappy: "I really don’t care who about the arrests of these ex governors regardless which party, I just worry that we are the ones who play up these party and ethnicity lines. We should not care! Let them go and answer, tomorrow the tide will change for the protected to face the law."

@elbizzy: "Ganduje caught on tape up till now nothing has happened this country is not a real country."

@RemainAudacious: "Nigerians and comparison. Whether we like it or not, there are double standards everywhere in the world. You can preach it but can't stop it. This attitude of always bringing up other wrong things to invalidate same wrong thing is what we should stop. It'll get to everyone's turn."

@ojoolawally: "As it stand today all ex governors in prison are from ruling party i stand to be correct. All this lies that EFCC favour ruling can not be prove."

@ibekemed: "3 ex govs has been jailed successfully by EFCC under this administration. 3 of them were in APC at the time of their prosecutions. 1 is free today, 2 are still serving their jail terms. Pls tell me who's bias here, U or the EFCC?
Stop this media herdsmanism & journal Banditry."

@adorableO1121: "He was asked to report to EFCC office be4 travelling out but he didnt, he elected 2 dare EFCC by choosing 2 travel out. You can see how our leaders violate laws and abuse d system. Those govs u mentioned must ve obeyed d rules hence they re left 2 enjoy their freedom under d law."

@kingsijeh: "Actually I like that obiano was arrested by EFCC at the Lagos airport, shows how irresponsible he is and why he has questions to answer. It shouldn't matter who is being persecuted for criminal misconduct, rather let's build independent institutions so justice can serve all."

@Nsukka_okpa: "Tough times for the Obiano Family..

- Mrs. Obiano got slapped by Bianca early hours of today. Loosing her Wig and eye lashes in the process.

- EFCC Picks Up Willie Obiano At Lagos Airport in the dying minutes of today."

Nigerians have vehemently kicked against the ruling of a Federal High Court sitting in Umuahia the Abia State capital, that declared section 84 (12) of the amended Electoral Act 2022 a nullity, and therefore directed the Attorney General of the Federation Abubakar Malami to delete the section.

Many who stood against the Court's declaration argued that the judiciary lacks the power to add or remove any clause in the constitution.

They slammed Malami for allowing his desperation to becloud his sense of reasoning.

They also charged the National Judicial Council (NJC) to discipline the judge that made such unlawful pronouncement, which according to them is tantamount to usurping the powers and functions of the National Assembly.

@ayemojubar: "Let Malami do his worst, get more of his minions to nullify Section 84 (12) of the Electoral Act 2022, it won't change anything.

Let him bring the amendment bill 5000 times to the Legislative, it will be rejected 5000 times.

NASS had already voted against it, and that's final."

@Ennexlaw: "History will not be kind to that Judge. Malami wants this so desperately."

@UIbeike: "If this is true that some people are above the law, then we are deceiving ourselves in this country."

@VoiceOfFrancee: "The Judiciary or the Legislature, who now makes the law?

Well, this same Legislature sat aloof when the Executive defiled the separation of power and sacked a sitting CJN...

Today, the Executive and the Judiciary wants to take the position of the Legislature in making laws."

@onyokpo: "Can the court take over the responsibility of the National assembly? So after deleting the section, will the Executive leave it like that and sign the new bill as amended by the court or what? Confusion everywhere."

@inemhen: "They are at it again, Nigeria is really not progressing. God help us with good leaders."

@IdaksMr: "Nigerian laws have become clothing to some people, they change them whenever they want."

@kpuraAraba: "The court should have handled the entire job of reworking the Electoral Act. Nonsense!"

@BuchiSeth: "Malami is power drunk!"

@AriyoAristotle: "Embarking on forum shopping to secure a judgement against Section 84 (12) -EA has merely exposed you to a fragile ding-dong that could jeopardise your electoral future.

This will get to the Supreme Court.

Malami, a long-serving Minister, wants to eat his cake & have it.

NO."

@jamesagada: "Is it Malami that passed the law? Does Malami have power to remove sections of any law? Some of these our judges are smoking something or maybe the journalists put their spin."

@VictorWolemonwu: "That judge must be a world-class comedian. Malami did not revise the Electoral law. How would he REMOVE or alter a section from the Electoral Law? What section of the constitution gives him such a right?"

@onyiforlife: "Does Malami have the right to remove section from the Electoral Act? Some Nigeria judges are worse than bokoharam."

@JGagariga: "NJC and Nigerian Bar association should do the needful to that judge who gave such ruling, enough of judicial rascality!"

@AustinNwabufo: "Malami the so called Attorney General is power drunk, and highly incompetent, not in the least expected to be more than a junior legal officer in a local govt council."
